The back is plain grey - my 4yo doesn't care. The 3D bits attach with black velcro dots. I bought extra stick on black velcro dots & added some more to secure them better as with my son's active play & 'transforming' into a truck the shoulder ones came off a few times. I also bought a bigger size as my son is large for his age so the body fit perfectly but the legs were too long so I used the velcro dots to shorten by gathering just below the knee - 'cause I can't sew. Noone even noticed - not even him. He does get warm in it but here in Western Australia we are heading into summer with temps over 86-104F. I would buy again. The baby buzz costume is from this site too & I've left a review with that product too.
